Local Job Fairs & Networking

Make sure to review the link to Community events and networking listed on the request posting form. Your community can take advantage of local job fairs and network with local organizations to promote job openings. Many markets have charities and outreach programs that will provide training to individuals who might be good employees for entry level positions.

Free Resources within your market

Check out links to free resources in your area that are listed on the request posting form. Some local job board like Craigslist and Indeed have sections that provide free resumes or access to candidates who post resumes looking for a job. Some community and college boards will also provide free job listings

College Recruiting

Networking on Campus
  • Posting flyers on the campus boards or distributing flyers at the student union is a great way to network on campus. An option is to assign someone on staff to the task of being your on-campus promoter with monthly visits to the campus.

Campus Media Options
  • Most larger college campuses have a student newspaper with online and print versions. Taking out an online banner on the student newspaper and advertising a job fair – is a great way to utilize this media option.
  • The larger state colleges also have a radio station and they usually will do free announcements for any type of job event.
  • Some of the college career placement offices will send email blasts to students within a certain department or throughout the college.

Military personnel possess the attention to detail, drive for excellence and pride in their work that we value in our current culture and staff members.

Establishing a good working relationship is key.
  • Schedule a meeting with the transition office contact either on base or at the restaurant.
  • Discuss opportunities/positions for employment, application process, benefits, flexible schedule, etc.
  • Inquire about printed material or e-flyer distribution, job fairs, volunteer events we can attend, and how to assist service members.
  • Follow up by email every month or two with new e-flyer listing current openings.

Hosting Job Fair Events

Why do a job fair event
  1. Job Fair events are a great way to give candidates a Call-To-Action that allows them in-person and immediate interviews.
  2. Job Fairs or Open House Events – offer a step up from open interviews – a special extra step to entice candidates to apply.

Best time/day to do a job fair event
  1. The best days of the week to do an event are Monday or Tuesday.
  2. The best times to do an event are – any time you and your team can best manage it.
  3. Most events are done during the day - mid morning or late afternoon

Promoting a job fair event
Tell your staff about the event and ask them to invite friends – remind them of the referral bonus
